TIMBER
QUALITY
Because we use naturally cured
mountain timber of 14-18% average moisture content, our
packages will only have about 1/2"
to 1" of settlement in a 10' wall. Allowance
for settlement is achieved by using post adjusters at structural
bearing points and settlement spaces over windows and at interior
wall locations.
At every stage
in production, logs are checked for quality and accuracy of
cut length. All of our pre-cut log packages are graded
by trained Timber Products Inspection
graders. Logs are grade-stamped as required by local codes
or client's request. Log grading assures that the log
package is structurally sound as to amount of knots, straightness
of grain, minimal splits, and no rot. Grading assures
that checks, which are a normal presence in logs, are not weakening
the log structurally.

ENERGY
EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency is a must for any home. Logs
are a natural reservoir for heat energy. To enhance this
natural thermal mass efficiency, each log is coped using a
Swedish cope. The radius of this cope is slightly smaller
than the log diameter to maintain a uniform fit along the length
of each log as the logs settle. To increase weather tightness
each pre-cut package includes the following: foam sealant tape
(two rows for the cope between the logs), expanding foam insulation
(for dado joints), and sill seal (for bottom plate logs).

MAINTENANCE
For
proper maintenance of your log home, it is important that you
keep the logs at your building site dry, off the ground, and
away from weeds and grass. Final cleanup can include
a pressure wash. It is strongly recommended that the exterior
of your log home be sealed as soon as possible with a sealant
that includes water and UV protection. Due to the nature
of logs, you may choose to caulk or chink the exterior of your
log home.
